SmartClass Language Lab Systems
Symposium
The Simplicity
of Walk-In & Teach
Symposium has been developed
for language teachers. Symposium empowers teachers to come into the
language lab on the first day of class and simply walk-in & teach
using any and all of their existing program materials. No special formatting.
No extra work. Just walk-in & teach!
Symposium is simple;
yet don't be fooled by its simplicity. Symposium enables teachers to
run an impressive range of language learning exercises and activities,
and support their students while they work on individual, pair, or group
assignments.
Simple
& Intuitive touchscreen-based language lab management
interface
Powerful
& Comprehensive desktop tools for launching student learning
activities and supporting students while they work individually, in
pairs, or in groups.
Flexible
use of modern digital media (CD-ROMs, DVDs, the Internet)
and traditional analog media (audiocassette tapes, VCR tapes).
Walk-In
& Teach is an exclusive Symposium capability that enables
teachers to use existing program materials without changes, and without
any additional preparation – even when running advanced activities like
Audio Active Comparative exercises.
The Power
to Captivate Students
Fully
engage students: Multimedia teaching materials employing text,
video, and sound fully engage students in the language learning experience,
no matter what their learning style.
Powerful,
authentic language context: The use of Internet-based language
materials, like target language radio, television, and newspapers, helps
students experience the target language in a powerful, authentic context.
Intensive
target language exposure: Collaboration tools like random
audio pairing and audio conferencing provide every student with maximum
exposure to diverse listening and speaking opportunities.
Unmatched
Audio and Video Quality
Owing to its high quality SmartClass audio
and video hardware switching components, the Symposium System combines
superb delay-free sound and quality video without any perceptible distortion
or loss of clarity - with any combination of student pairing or conferencing
and concurrent teacher monitoring.
High quality audio/visual or multimedia materials
can be distributed live (without content duplication) to any or all
students from almost any A/V source – including VCRs, CDs and DVDs.
Teachers are able to discreetly monitor student activities even when
students are working with live video content.
The potential for student learning is limitless!
LogoLAB
LogoLAB is a new digital
language lab system designed specifically for self-study environments.
With LogoLAB, teachers create multimedia exercises using authentic language
materials. Students tackle assignments from any campus PC – at any time.
LogoLAB tracks student progress, and enables teachers to review student
work at their convenience.
Anytime,
Anywhere Participation
Students can login to
the LogoLAB server at any time from any computer connected to the school's
local area network (LAN). They can work from any computer lab, self-study
lab, library, dormitory, or even by wireless connection from their own
laptop.
This gives students
the freedom to manage their own time, and participate in class activities
at their convenience.
Personalized
Student Workspace
Each student has his
own unique workspace that he enters whenever he connects to the LogoLAB
server. Teachers are able to customize assignments for each student
or each group of students, so every student's workspace contains his
unique assignment list.
Students have the freedom
to choose which exercises they will tackle in which order.
Compelling
Multimedia Exercises
For students who are
part of the video game – Internet – cell phone generation, multimedia
exercises are the most captivating part of language learning.
With LogoLAB, teachers
are able to use authentic multimedia materials to create interactive
exercises for students. All audio, video, and audio-visual lesson materials
can be pre-indexed by he teacher for Audio Active Comparative exercises
and/or for closed captioning.
LogoLAB integrates student
virtual recorders, which permit students to provide oral and/or written
responses to teacher specified activities. Exercises comprising audio,
video, text and image content, support the following student activities:
Listening
Recording
– Simultaneous
Recording
– Audio Active Comparative (AAC)
Writing
Teachers are also able
to link text files – containing questions or fill-in-the-blanks quizzes
with all exercises.
