AI for language learning and CLIL from a multilingual perspective
(Dr. Letizia Cinganotto, Professor at the University for Foreigners of Perugia, Italy)
The presentation will explore the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in language learning and CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning), with a particular focus on multilingual education contexts. Drawing on current research and emerging applications, the talk will examine how AI-driven tools—such as intelligent tutoring systems, adaptive learning platforms, and generative language models—support both language acquisition and content mastery across diverse linguistic backgrounds. The multilingual perspective underscores the need for culturally and linguistically responsive AI systems that recognize learners’ first languages as assets rather than obstacles. Through case studies and practical examples, the presentation will highlight how AI can personalize instruction, scaffold complex language tasks, and promote translanguaging practices. The talk will also address ethical considerations and the digital divide, advocating for inclusive AI design that empowers learners in multilingual classrooms. The session aims to provoke discussion on how educators and developers can collaboratively harness AI to enrich language learning and CLIL pedagogies in increasingly globalized learning environments.
